My vindication tour lasted six days.

I told you to bookmark it on August 14. The deadline acquisitions were producing. The scoreboard was proving the graders wrong. Five losses in six games later, the scoreboard changed its mind.

Fifteen runs in five losses. Hitting .186 with runners in scoring position. The NL East lead bled from 8.5 to 5 while the Phillies didn't do anything special. The Braves just handed it to them.

The honesty: my vindication was premature.

But before you plan the recovery — "just beat the White Sox and get right" — let me save you the embarrassment.

The White Sox are 66-60.

The team that went 41-121 two years ago is a winning team in August. They're 37-24 at home. They lead the season series against Atlanta 2-0. This is the greatest turnaround in MLB history and you're treating today like a bye week.

Then it's Milwaukee. Best record in the National League at 78-49.

This isn't a recovery stretch. This is the week that tells you whether the funk is a blip or a fracture.

The bookmark still stands. I said this roster had the pieces. But pieces that score 15 runs across six games are expensive decorations on a shrinking lead.

Tell me I'm wrong.

The Tilt

Today's game at the 66-60 White Sox is a trap, not a tune-up.
