Angel Reese posted a stat line Thursday night that has never existed in WNBA history. The four franchises that think they own this city didn't come close to matching it.
The best athlete in Atlanta doesn't play at Mercedes-Benz, State Farm, or Truist Park. She plays at Gateway Center Arena in College Park. I called this in June. Thursday night Angel Reese made it inarguable.
Nine for nine from the field. Twenty points. Ten rebounds. Eight assists. Three steals. First player in WNBA history to post a 20/10/5 line on perfect shooting. Not the first this season. The first ever.
Here's what the other four franchises gave you on August 20. The Braves beat the White Sox 2-0 in a game you've already forgotten. The Falcons' starting defense got shredded 14-for-14 by Daniel Jones in a joint practice. The Hawks don't play for another month. Atlanta United is still 15th.
Nneka Ogwumike announced her retirement this week. She was the last player in the 100% shooting double-double club -- as a Spark. Reese demolished that same franchise, set the Dream's single-game scoring record at 124, and took Ogwumike's seat in the history book on the way out the door.
The Dream have outdrawn their entire 2025 attendance -- all 20 home games, 98,560 fans -- in 15 games this season. They're moving to bigger venues because the demand outgrew the building. Reese has 25 double-doubles, league-leading, on pace to shatter her own single-season record.
This isn't a WNBA story. This is an Atlanta story. I said it in June. Thursday made it a fact.
The Tilt
