The Hawks are the only Atlanta team playing today. Everything else this morning is a date — six days to Madrid, five to a match Atlanta United's own schedule feed does not list, and eighteen to the deadline that decides the Braves' bullpen.

The Hawks are the only Atlanta team with a game today. Everything else in this city is now a date on a calendar — Saturday, Sunday, and the twentieth.

Tampa Bay did not sack Michael Penix Jr. on Sunday, did not register a single quarterback hit, and got behind the line of scrimmage twice in 52 plays. Atlanta scored nothing. It is the second straight week the line has allowed neither a sack nor a hit. The week before, the same clean pocket produced 29 points and a win over San Francisco. That is why Miles took the popular diagnosis apart at length. His finding is that the grievance is real and the mechanism is wrong: zero of 12 on third down, three of six on fourth, the same five blockers in both formations.

Nobody in the division is at .500 — Carolina 3-4, Tampa Bay 3-5, Atlanta 3-5, New Orleans 2-5 — and Carolina lead it on a two-game losing streak. The more useful read is the one field that separates the two clubs with identical records. Atlanta and Tampa Bay share 3-5 and share the half-game figure; Tampa Bay sit on the 10th playoff seed and Atlanta the 11th. Tampa Bay are 2-0 inside the division. Atlanta are 1-2.

Madrid is in six days — Cincinnati at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday, 9:30 in the morning Eastern, Atlanta flagged the home team at a site the league flags neutral. Miles has the opponent: 5-2, three straight wins, 29.4 points a game. The colder note underneath it is that Cincinnati are an AFC team, so a win in Spain moves Atlanta's overall record and nothing else.

At Indiana tonight, 7:30, off a 121-99 loss at New Orleans on Saturday. The argument Atlanta spent the weekend having was about whose jump shot to blame, and Simone found that both candidates are shooting the identical 8 of 31 from three across the identical seven games. Her sentence is the one to keep: a number that can be two different men's fault inside three days is not an explanation.

What Atlanta can actually settle tonight is who dresses. Jalen Johnson is day-to-day with a left ankle, a return date of today and a questionable tag; Kingston Flemings begins a suspension that runs to November 4, and he had played all seven games. Indiana arrive at 2-5, on four straight losses, without a home win, and with Tyrese Haliburton out on a left hamstring strain. The schedule has finally produced an opponent in rougher shape than Atlanta. It has also chosen tonight to ask how much of Atlanta is available.

Golden State 68, Atlanta 63 in San Francisco, the series 4-3, a first championship in the franchise's second season, Gabby Williams 30 points and Finals MVP. Two frames hardened around what the run meant before the building had emptied. Simone counted the attempts instead: the club that led the WNBA in three-point attempts took 10 fewer of them than Atlanta on the night the shot was worth the most.

The open market has started putting a number on Raisel Iglesias, and two outlets reached the same one inside three days — third among free-agent relievers, with the same two men ahead of him. He saved 34 games on a 2.55 ERA, all of it in Atlanta, and he turns 37 in January. Somebody is buying a 37-year-old ninth inning.

That is not a shopping question, because Atlanta already shopped. Robert Suarez is owed $16 million in each of the next two seasons, was signed last December to set Iglesias up rather than succeed him, and spent three months of this year on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. Ellis has the full chain, and it ends on one joint.

November 20 is the date, a Friday. Five Atlanta players are arbitration-eligible and four of them are relief pitchers — Dylan Lee, James Karinchak, Michael Grove and Joey Wentz, with Bryce Elder the only starter among them. Each of the five is tendered a contract that day or let go. Atlanta's arbitration deadline is a bullpen deadline.

Atlanta United 3, Toronto 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, a result that ended Toronto's season rather than Atlanta's. They sit on 33 points from 33 matches, level with D.C. United and ahead of them only on wins, nine to seven. One match is left: at Red Bull New York on Saturday, 4:00 in the afternoon Eastern, on Apple TV. Their own club schedule feed returns 33 events and does not contain it, which is a forgivable thing for a schedule to believe about this season.

Tampa Bay ran the ball 56 times on Sunday and made 15 of their 16 first downs on the ground. Atlanta threw it 24 times in the same rain. The man who called those 56 runs is Zac Robinson, who ran Atlanta's offense for the two seasons before this one and joined Tampa Bay for this one. That is two staff sheets and nothing further. It is also the most interesting sentence anybody produced about this weekend.
