Two Atlanta clubs play in the early afternoon, and overnight added one line to the ledger, a point in Washington. The Falcons open at 1:00 in Pittsburgh; the Braves finish with Philadelphia at 1:35 with the series already won.

Braves

The series was Atlanta's by Saturday night, 6-5 in 11 on Friday and then 12-2, and the two Saturday reads are filed: Ellis on the inning that decided it and Dex on the dugout he had been watching. Today is the finale, 1:35 at Truist Park, Grant Holmes listed against Andrew Painter, with Atlanta at 88-61, Philadelphia at 82-67 and the magic number at seven by MLB's count.

What a third win does to that number is a rule, not a projection: a win over the club chasing you counts on both sides of it at once, and tonight's edition reads the next value rather than guessing it. What a third win does to the record is plainer. It would be the second time this season Atlanta have taken three straight from Philadelphia, after 9-0, 3-1 and 4-2 at Citizens Bank Park in April, and the first time at Truist Park. It is also the thirteenth and last meeting of the year. Philadelphia leave town this afternoon and do not see Atlanta again in 2026.

Then the road. Nine of the last twelve are away: Monday through Wednesday at Wrigley Field against a Cubs club leading the wild card at 83-66, Friday through Sunday in Houston against the club sitting first in the AL West, three at home against Cincinnati starting the twenty-second, then three in Miami to finish. Philadelphia's twelve split six and six: two at Washington and four at the Mets, then Milwaukee and Tampa Bay at Citizens Bank Park. Today is also game six of the six-game home test Ellis set on Tuesday. He totals it tonight, and the verdict is his.

Falcons

Atlanta at Pittsburgh, 1:00, Acrisure Stadium, the road side, on FOX. Cooper Rush starts through Saturday's back spasms, per the club's announcement as ESPN carries it; Jack Strand is the backup, and Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. are Out. Miles has the decision and Dex has the answer. The inactives list is exchanged ninety minutes before kickoff, per the league's football operations page, which makes it an 11:30 document.

The receipt worth keeping came from the other side of the field. Steelers Wire, Saturday morning, under Andrew Vasquez's byline on Yahoo's syndication, put two numbers on this game before it was played: Pittsburgh's defense "sacks Cooper Rush 5+ times," and Bijan Robinson is "held under 60 total yards." The premise for the first is a defensive line plus "three starting-caliber edge rushers," and the syndicated text names no individual defender. The scale of the second is Robinson's 2025: 2,298 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns in 17 games, per ESPN. Tilt grades both tonight, the pressure and the numbers. A prediction is only worth grading if it was printed before the fact, and this one was, at 5:08 in the morning.

Hawks

The one Atlanta club with nothing on the field this weekend moved paper on Friday. ESPN's transaction log shows Atlanta waived guards Devin Carter and Lamont Butler on Friday, September 11, and Hoops Rumors confirmed it Friday afternoon. Carter is the one worth a second sentence: the No. 13 pick in the 2024 draft, per Hoops Rumors, who came from Sacramento at the end of June along with a second-round pick. Butler was signed Thursday and gone Friday, and neither name is on ESPN's Atlanta roster this morning. A June acquisition released in September, before camp, is a decision about the guard room, and the date is the whole read.

Atlanta United

A point at Audi Field, 0-0, and Tito has the shape of it. The table last night's edition could not sort is sortable this morning, with twelve of the fifteen Eastern clubs through the weekend; New England, Chicago and Philadelphia Union play today. Atlanta United are fourteenth of fifteen on 23 points from 25, level on points and wins with Columbus and behind them on goal difference; CF Montréal are fifteenth on 21. Ninth is Philadelphia Union, on 30 from 24, seven clear, with Atlanta's nine to play and twenty-seven points still on offer. Next is Saturday night at Portland, 10:30 Eastern at Providence Park, against a club eighth in the West on 32, W 9 D 5 L 11. Six days without a match, and the wait starts now.

One more thing.

At 1:00 the Falcons start a number at zero: game one of seventeen, the first record of the year. At 1:35 the Braves play game 150 of 162 with a number that only goes down, and it is already at seven. Thirty-five minutes apart, one Atlanta season starts counting up and the other keeps counting down. Only one of them is guaranteed to move by dinner.
