The Trade Board Was Dated Wednesday

The Mac Jones trade board beat the injury by more than a day.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox published his Week 1 trade block big board at 8:03 Wednesday morning. Jones is No. 2. "Potential Suitors: Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns." The entry does not mention Tua. Or Penix. Or Rush.

Wednesday, Tua Tagovailoa was healthy and named the starter. Cooper Rush was the named backup. Michael Penix Jr. was listed full. That is the room Knox decided needed a quarterback.

Thursday, Tua's oblique put Rush in the first-team huddle. At 4:03 PM, NFL.com's Nick Shook called it "a worrisome sign that the Falcons might have to begin 2026 with a quarterback they hoped would spend 2026 as the third-string option." His word. The club's word is backup. At 6:15 PM, Falcons Wire ran one headline for both: "Falcons Recap: Cooper Rush replaces Tua, B/R lists QB trade target."

Thirty-four hours from listing to wedding. Only the last few had an injury in them.

Knox wrote the mechanism himself. The market "will peak if and when another contender loses its starting quarterback to injury." He filed Atlanta in the other column, the teams "looking ahead." Thursday moved Atlanta into the first column. Nobody reread the entry.

This was not a reaction to an injury. It was a bet against Penix, made before anybody got hurt. It is not even new: Atlanta was tied to Jones in February and June. September is the third time, and the first with an injury to hide under.

I answered "go get a quarterback" on Tuesday, when it meant tanking: "Nobody needs to go get Atlanta a quarterback. Somebody needs to let the one Atlanta already has finish the sentence he started Monday." The noun changed. The sentence did not.

Miles has what it would cost. I have the calendar. No outlet has reported Atlanta calling San Francisco, and this runs before Friday's 4:00 PM Game Status Report.

My Penix number is 69. A trade board is not a document about a knee. It does not move.
